Recognizing Berkeley’s Sheffield Preschool

June Sheffield first welcomed Soccer Shots into the preschool she runs out of her home 5 years ago in 2019. After the Velazquez family took over Soccer Shots SF Bay, June continued to host our program for 4 more years.

Last week, she officially retired from Sheffield Preschool and graciously invited our team to celebrate with her.

June has been continuously running her school for 41 years. We can only imagine the stories she has! She is said to have an unusual understanding of what young children love, what motivates them, and what earns their trust.

Coach Melissa planned a special surprise with her soccer players and had them all sign one of our famous orange jerseys, as well as coordinated with the City of Berkeley to attend and present June with a proclamation honoring her “outstanding service to the Berkeley Community.”

Her impact on the Berkeley community cannot be overstated, and we strove for our comparatively short time working with the children of Sheffield Preschool to represent June’s true educational spirit.

Miss June remains an advocate for home-based preschools and daycares. She spent her career building and maintaining a safe, trusting, and nurturing environment for young children and hopes that other programs like hers continue to flourish.

Please join us in congratulating June Sheffield on her retirement!
